Vanuatu Solar Battery Deployment

Giving Medical Batteries a Second Life in Community Projects

At Sustainable Lithium Cells Australia, we’re always looking for ways to extend the usable life of high-quality lithium batteries. Recently, we supplied retired medical equipment batteries to Substation33 in conjunction with Action Aid Australia for a community project in remote villages of Vanuatu.

From Hospitals to Homes

The batteries were originally used by a medical device distributor and retired from hospital use. Despite being taken out of service, they still retained around 80% of their original capacity on average. Rather than being sent to recycling prematurely, they’re now powering new applications with plenty of reliable life left.

The Product

We supplied our 50Ah 12V LFP batterysee details here. Built for safety, stability, and long cycle life, these batteries were ideal for the purpose.

Why It Matters

  • Reduced waste: Each repurposed battery delays recycling and avoids unnecessary imports.

  • Sustainability: Extending battery lifespans reduces the demand for new minerals and manufacturing.

  • Accessibility: Projects like this lower costs for communities and make clean energy more attainable.

Building the Circular Battery Economy

This project highlights how much untapped value still exists in “retired” batteries. By bridging the gap between end-of-first-life and recycling, we help create a more sustainable, repair-friendly, and affordable energy future.
